Best Summer Activities Around Lake Merced

Summer has officially arrived and it’s time to get out and really explore our wonderful neighborhood. One our favorite things about living at Parkmerced is that we have the best of both worlds. We live in one of the greatest cities in the country, but also have the solace of nature in our backyard at Lake Merced Park. We’ve already dished out our reasons to Love Lake Merced. Now, let’s talk about the best ways to enjoy summer around Lake Merced!

TPC Harding Park

Only a short walk from Parkmerced, you can bring out your inner Arnold Palmer (the pro-golfer, not his drink) and enjoy a tee time at TPC Harding Park golf course. Not a pro? Don’t worry, the Fleming 9-hole golf course can be enjoyed by golfers of all abilities! You’ll also want to make a day of it and stop by Harding Park’s restaurant, The Cypress Grill, which is perfect for taking in breath-taking views of Lake Merced during your after-golf meal.

Cost: Fleming 9-hole Course is $23 on weekdays and $25 on weekends for San Francisco residents.

Tips: Stop by the Midway Grille for a quick bite in between holes.

San Francisco Zoo

Over 1,000 exotic, endangered, and rescued animals representing more than 250 species call the San Francisco Zoo home and opening mid-July is a brand-new Tropical Rainforest and Aviary exhibit. Enjoy the day by meeting new animal friends, stopping by the play areas with the kids, or relaxing in the zoo’s tranquil gardens. The San Francisco Zoo is the perfect place to soak up the summer sun.

Cost: $14.00 for San Francisco residents.

Tips: Save money by bringing your own lunch and drinks.

Fitness at Lake Merced

Lake Merced is a haven tucked away in the city that’s perfect for runners training for marathons or anyone looking to take a leisurely walk through nature. With a total distance of 4.5 miles of running path around the lake and different gym equipment scattered throughout, this place is perfect for a workout. The lake is also pooch and bike friendly. Grab your running shoes or leash-up your pup and get active! Life sure is sweet when your backyard is Lake Merced!

Cost: FREE!

Tips: Cut across the crossover bridge for a shortcut (we won’t tell).

Doggy Day at Fort Funston

If you’re a puppy parent and looking for a great place to spend some quality off-leash time with your pup look no further! Fort Funston is a full of great trails in grass areas and plenty of beaches for your pup to play in. This park also provides doggy water stations throughout the park making this the perfect place for animal lovers. With plenty of other dogs to socialize with and space to play around, your dog will give Fort Funston two paws up!

Cost: FREE!

Tips: Definitely clean up after your dog to keep this oasis fun for all.
