Out Of The Darkness Benefit Walk

Parkmerced is on a journey to “Whole Living”. By integrating work, home, community, and self into one experience that impacts the congruency of each- we bring a new level of vitality to living and working here. There continues to be many opportunities for resident engagement along the way as together we fulfill the Parkmerced Vision.

Here’s a new way you can be connected with our ongoing revitalization, come together as a community, and take part as a team.

WHO: Anyone Connected to The Parkmerced Community

WHAT: The “Out Of The Darkness” overnight walk benefitting the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention

WHEN: Saturday Night, May 21st from Sunset to Sunrise

WHERE: The walk starts and ends at the Fort Mason – Great Meadow. And though organizers won’t release the actual walk route until event day- all of the following San Francisco landmarks can seen from the 16-mile course:

  • Marina District

  • Palace of Fine Arts

  • Pacific District

  • Presidio Heights District

  • Cottage Row

  • Japantown

  • Chinatown

  • Financial District

WHY: Because It’s An Experience Like No Other! As you walk through the night, you’ll feel safe and cared-for in a community where everyone supports each other. It’s a place to laugh, to cry, and to heal – to honor the past and embrace a future that your work will change for the better.

DAVID HOLT’S STORY:

As Director of Corporate Housing at Parkmerced, David signed up for this walk because he wanted to participate and personally fund in honor of friends who have had some tough times. “It has nothing to do with work. Then my family, friends, and co-workers started sponsoring my donor page. Following that I saw an opportunity to celebrate our community by leading a Parkmerced team of walkers that includes residents of all ages and community staff.” David proclaims enthusiastically. This kind of evolution mirrors Parkmerced’s own organic momentum.

Every year suicide claims more lives than war, murder, and natural disasters combined, and yet suicide prevention does not get anywhere near the funding given to other leading causes of death.

We look forward to walking in lockstep with you as the Parkmerced community to shine a supportive spotlight on a cause deserving of our time and attention.
